I've been specialising for 14 years, and one of my specialty areas is helping people with back pain. That could be lower back pain, mid back pain or forms of sciatica.

Back pain is probably the most common problem I see, and having seen over 15,000 patients, that's a lot of backs!

Back pain affects 1 in 3 of us at some time in our lives, and can affect all ages. Symptoms do vary, from a dull ache in the back which can come and go to sharp stabbing pains that can go down our legs consistently. In some extremes, it can also cause numbness or pins and needles in our legs and feet.

The common causes of lower back pain again vary. These include poor sitting posture, stiffness and sitting for long periods, poor lifestyle, poor diet, lack of exercise, overweight, pre-existing back problems, family history of back problems, muscular strain from lifting or over exertion, poor bed mattress, age (wear and tear).

Does you back feel like this? We can stop it The most important thing with back pain is not to just treat its signs or symptoms or to take painkillers to hide the pain without properly identifying the cause. Not knowing the cause pre-disposes you to more back problems. Specifically, when I see patients with back pain, I help to reduce the pain as quickly as possible, but also help identify the cause to stop it returning later on. This is important, especially if you are young, as neglect of this can lead to premature osteoarthritis later on.

Most of my patients report feeling better within 2/3 sessions.
My reputation is everything based on this.
However, this likewise does depend on the patient being compliant with my advice and exercises!

Treatments vary and I never treat two patients the same. Every person is different and on their first consultation I do a thorough MOT on their body to identify their individual problem. The key here again is that everyone is different and treatment is tailored for their individual needs which helps in the success of their management. This is why back classes sometimes don't work.
